Fue el pasado día miércoles 21 de este mes cuando por fin me decidí a cambiar mi antigua computadora portátil Compaq por una hermosa y práctica iMac de Apple con el nuevo sistema operativo Leopard.Tras haber estado ahorrando intensamente por varios días, por fin logré reunir la cantidad de dinero suficiente para hacer realidad uno de mis sueños que era comprar una computadora 'todo en uno' como lo es la simpática iMac de Apple.

Cabe mencionar que el equipo tuvo un costo final de $1,559.00 dólares incluyendo el sofware .Mac y un seguro de soporte técnico por tres años.
El hecho de haber tomado esta desición, obedece a varias razones...
La primera, era la gran necesidad de un equipo con mejores características que me permitiera desempeñar con mayor rapidez mi trabajo. Como todos lo saben, a la vez que trabajo como cajero en una tienda de autoservicio, también estoy ejerciendo mi profesión como diseñador gráfico trabajando en mi tiempo libre y a través de Internet para la empresa Phoenix de California en donde colaboro en el área de creación de banners publicitarios, edición de imágenes digitales, análisis de mercado virtual y optimización web de varios sitios en la red.
La segunda razón de haber adquirido este hermoso juguetito, es porque mi vieja laptop ya estaba cansada de tantas prácticas bajando software y probándolo constantemente a la par de manejar photoshop, corel draw, word y firefox con 20 ó más pestañas abiertas a la vez y por varias horas contínuas cada día.
La tercera razón, es más bien personal y es esa que muchos o todos los diseñadores gráficos siempre hemos tenido que es poseer estas joyas que están hechas exclusivamente para obtener el máximo provecho de las más exigentes aplicaciones gráficas y software multimedia como es video, imagen y audio en conjunto.
Como bien lo saben las personas que poseen equipos de Apple, esto es simplemente otro mundo. Un mundo en el cual yo estuve involucrado hace quizás 10 años o más cuando trabajaba para una empresa de artes gráficas en la ciudad de Xalapa Veracruz México.
Sin embargo y como es lógico, las cosas cambian día con día y qué decir de la tecnología, la cual cambia constantemente en aras de ser mejor con el paso del tiempo. Tanto así cambian que el primer día que compré mi iMac e instalé el sistema operativo Leopard, hubo muchas cosas que no sabía cómo hacerlas y por las cuales estuve a punto de devolver el equipo pues la desesperación se estaba apoderando de mi y tuve que recurrir a sitios de Internet para leer información sobre el usop apropiado de estos sistemas y hasta tuve que contactar con varios amigos que son usuarios de Mac para salir de varias dudas que me estaban haciendo perder la pasciencia.
Lo que si me queda claro, es que mi adquisición fue bastante buena pues compré uno de los mejores equipos que existen en el mercado para ejecutar las funciones a las cuales actualmente me dedico.
Al principio, uno de mis mayores temores, era que no funcionara mi tarjeta de Internet Sprint que usaba en mi laptop en mi nueva iMac. Sin embargo, usando mi portátil, bajé de la red el software para Mac y en tan solo 5 minutos ya estaba funcionando perfectamente el servicio de Internet en la iMac.
Dado que no me gusta usar Safari, de inmediato me dispuse a bajar Firefox.
Lo bajé, lo instalé y esa noche lo estuve utilizando.
Al día siguiente cuando encendí la iMac, no encontraba por ningún pinche lado el acceso directo para Firefox y eso me empezó a molestar y a desesperar. Charlando con un amigo por el MSN -para Mac obviamente-, me dice que necesitaba copiar la descarga a la carpeta 'Aplicaciones' para que ya estuviera disponible la próxima vez que fuera a utilizarlo. Así lo hice y en efecto la siguiente vez lo busqué y ahí estaba. Más tarde, bajé Skype y siguiendo el consejo de mi amigo, repetí el proceso y descubrí de esa forma que las cosas en Mac no eran tan difíciles y que de hecho eran más fáciles de lo que pensaba.
Como podrán ver en los links que les proporcioné al principo de este artículo, la iMac contiene gran cantidad de aplicaciones que hacen más productivo el tiempo que pasamos frente a nuestro ordenador. Otra cosa que me llamó la atención, fue que cuando entré a Softonic para tratar de bajar un trial de Photoshop, Internet detectó automáticamente mi sistema operativo y me redireccionó a una página exclusiva donde estaba disponible Photoshop para OSX Leopard. Lo mismo me pasó cuando busqué diversas aplicaciones que uso a diario.
En resumen, estoy muy satisfecho con mi nuevo juguete aunque de momento no sé qué diablos le sucede al programa iMovie de la serie iLife que no me funciona y en cambio me aparece cada que intento ejecutar la aplicación el mensaje que usted puede leer en la imagen de abajo tomada de una captura a la pantalla en el momento justo del suceso.

Se trata de una HP con procesador Centrino Duo 'Santa Rosa', 2 gigas de memoria Ram, 240 gigas en disco duro, tecnología LightScribe, Graba y lee Cds y Dvs, Tarjeta de gráficos Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS, tiene Cámara web y micrófono integrado, pantalla de 17 pulgadas entre otras muchas cosas más...De todas formas, los mantendré informados porque ni la caja he abierto.
